SAN ANTONIO ? Jr., George W. sledge, m.d, a nationally recognized pioneer in the development of novel therapies for breast cancer, William L. McGuire Memorial Lecture Award at the 33rd annual CTRC-AACR San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium received the 2010.

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) supported by Oncology since its inception in 1992, this honor distinguished international recognizes recognized researchers for their significant contributions to breast cancer research.

Slide is Ballve Lantero Professor of Oncology and Professor of medicine and Pathology at the Indiana University School of medicine and a doctor / researchers at Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center. He is also co-director of the IU Simon Cancer Center's breast program. Slide is specialized in the study and treatment of breast cancer, and his research focuses specifically on molecular tumor biology, growth factors and angiogenesis therapy. He has several nationwide clinical studies with new therapies for breast cancer Chair.

"Dr. Sledge's work developing innovative therapies for the treatment of women with breast cancer has improved the lives of countless cancer patients", said C. Kent Osborne, m.d, Codirector San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium and Director of the Baylor College of medicine Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center. "The selection of Dr. sledge is even better because he was one of the first medical oncology fellows the new fellowship training program at the University of Texas Health Science Center Division of Oncology to complete founded by Dr. McGuire as Division Director in the late 1970s." Sled will give a speech titled "what Bill would?" Channeling your inner McGuire "on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 11: 15 A.m. CT, during the 33rd Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium." This symposium includes the entire spectrum of breast cancer research, Dec. 8-12, 2010, occurs on the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio, Texas.

Paolo Paoletti, m.d, senior Vice President and head of Oncology R & D unit at GlaxoSmithKline, said "Dr. sledge a true visionary and pioneer in the progression of the pathway-related treatments for breast cancer and other diseases." His work with HER2-positive, angiogenesis treatment helped herald a new era in the treatment of breast cancer and millions of patients have benefited from this advance in science. All of Dr. sledge were admirable contributions's research with a unique attention and commitment to patients feelings and needs that drive everything he does. "This award is befitting such a great scientist and supporters of patient care."

Sledge came Indiana University School of Medicine faculty in 1983, after his residency at St. Louis University and his fellowship at the University of Texas, San Antonio. He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and its medical at Tulane University.

He holds many awards including Jill rose award ? Breast Cancer Research Foundation (2007) and the 2006 Komen Foundation Brinker Award for scientific distinction. Sled was listed under "America's top doctors" and "America's top doctors for cancer."

Slide is the current President of ASCO and is an active member of the AACR since 1988. He served as a breast cancer cancer Committee leaders with the Hoosier Oncology Group. He serves as Chair of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and in various capacities for the breast cancer Intergroup. He was Secretary (1997-1998) and a Board of Trustees member (1995-1998) of the Indiana medical oncology society. Slide has published extensively in the field of breast cancer research and served as editor in Chief of the clinical breast cancer.

About William L. McGuire Memorial Lectureship

Dr. William L. McGuire, established together with Dr. Charles A. Coltman, the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium in 1977. William L. McGuire Memorial Lectureship founded in 1992 to commemorate the significant contributions of Dr. McGuire, our understanding of breast cancer biology and treatment. His work played an important role in the introduction of estrogen receptor assays on breast tumor tissue as a guide for women with breast cancer treatment decisions. Breast cancer patients get everywhere these tests now. The lecturer is SABCS Executive and planning committees of people nominated by distinguished researchers in the field.

About the CTRC-AACR San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium

The Mission of the CTRC-AACR San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium is a unique and comprehensive scientific meeting to produce, which includes the entire spectrum of breast cancer research, facilitate the fast translation of knowledge into better care for patients with breast cancer.
